In previous years, brides tended to select soft pastels and white, lilac and even black and white. So popular were these color choices in fact, you may just find them leading the way in 2009 for popular wedding colors as well.

Most likely, you will see bold, bright colors enter the 2009 wedding scene as well. The fashion experts all agree that bright bold colors, and even exotic combinations are the new trend. Now of course you don't want go overboard for your wedding, but you may want to add at least a splash of bright and bold to your wedding color scheme.

I'm sure you're wondering how to add bright, bold and even exotic splashes of color, without it looking too extreme? As long as you keep the bridal dress and bridesmaid and groomsmen attire more traditional and color-coordinated, everything will tie in together just fine. Then you can add the bold splash of color to your table decor, flower arrangements, and even the trim on the wedding cake.

Tropical colors that feature bright yellows and turquoise will likely be popular, and when mixed with a tropical wedding theme can be quite a beautiful sight to behold. Favor boxes can be decorated with ribbons of blue and yellow along with place settings that are color coordinated will give off the illusion of the tropics.

Orange color schemes will also most likely be making their way back into popularity. Think how pretty this color scheme would be: use oranges, coordinated with peach tones and then use an occasional splash of very bright orange. You could also include Tiger Liliies in your bridal bouquets.

Of course pinks will always be in style, but for 2009 you will also see stronger pink shades emerge as opposed to the softer shades. 2009 is all about new beginnings, so why not make a statement of new beginnings in your color choices?

It's best not to gain weight in the first place. Sometimes things happen that we don't expect, so if you have reached the point where you are interested in shedding some weight, it is possible to do it. The sooner you act the better. Your breast cancer risk will drop the faster you lose your extra weight.

Making sure that you are dieting and exercising properly is key though. You want to make sure that you are doing everything in moderation. It is important to make sure that you are still giving yourself enough protein and everything else you need for your body to function properly. With regular diet and exercise you will be able to lose the weight you need.

In the Heart of the New York Catskill Mountains, there is a place called Nicks Waterfall House. I have been there many times and it has become one of my favorite places of all time to ride to.

There are times when the stress of our lives and jobs can get even the best of us a little down. If you are a straight lace citizen you go to a Doctor and get some pills or maybe see a shrink. If you are a Biker you hop on your Motorcycle get the motor running and you head out to a place like Nicks Waterfall House.

It does not matter where you are or what direction you come from. The ride threw the NY Catskill Mountains is going to relax the stress away from the depths of your very soul. As you ride to Nick's threw long winding roads up over and into the heart of some of the worlds most majestic Mountains, with the Sun shining down on you and the fresh Mountain air filling your lungs you will start to get a feeling of what one can only describe as pure joy.

As you get near Nicks Waterfall House located on Route 990v, Gilboa New York 12076, either alone or with a group of friends. You will feel as if time and space are no longer a factor in the Universe, and it only gets better from there! As you ride in the first thing many think is they have reached some old time lost resort, but have no fear Nicks is a Biker bar.

When you walk threw the front door you will no longer have any doubts you have arrived at the right place. If Nick is not there to great you himself, there is a good chance he is in his large kitchen cooking up some classic Biker grub. I recommend the first thing you do is order an Ice Cold Beer and go sit by the large windows over looking a Waterfall that looks as if it was stolen from the year 1492. If there is any stress or negative emotions left in your body after the ride to the Waterfall House after only a few minutes watching the water fall down and roll over the rocks it will soon have all washed down stream.

Then it is time to meet the locals, grab another Beer and maybe some of that great food (My favorite is the Waterfall House Cheeseburgers) or maybe shoot a game of pool. The crowd at Nicks is a mix of friendly Bikers, locals and good ole boys. This is a place to exchange stories and Adventures from the road. Often the sharing of stories can go on for hours.

It is easy to have what some may call too much fun at Nicks Waterfall House but with rooms up stairs starting at only $25 a night, there is no reason to worry! Now I want to make sure that you know when I tell you there are rooms at Nicks you understand these rooms where created for road weary bikers. If you bring your old lady with you make sure she is a real biker Chick because Nicks is no Yuppie bed and breakfast! It is a real bikers, biker bar and what you get when you rent a room from Nicks is a communal living room a bed to sleep in and a shower to wash off the road dust! One other thing you get from a night at Nicks is a renewed Spirit of Adventure and a willingness to face what ever maybe up around the next bend in your life!

I have many local Bars that I think of as home and I love to go to and cut loose, but when I hear that call of the road it is often telling me it is time to go to Nick's Waterfall House!!!

This holiday season many may find that they are without someone to enjoy the holidays with. There are many options available with lots of parties and events to engage in fun and cozy times. For those that are single or in between relationships there are many social choices to make. This brings us to the subject of expectations. As I have mentioned in previous blogs the dating process is not for the faint of heart. It is important to go into this arena with the right attitude. I have heard so many horror stories from friends, family, and acquaintances of the trials and tribulations of dating. (Especially internet dating!) In order to travel this treacherous and yet wonderful path of meeting and greeting, which can be both exciting and nerve-racking, one must enter the entire process with the right attitude.

Dating websites allow people to connect with people they never would have met dating conventionally. With such a diverse group of people on these social networking sites your never sure what your going to get. Men and women usually see things differently, a dear friend of mine has a strong stance on how dating should go. From this perceptive males point of view, too many people begin the process with expectations that lead them down the slippery hill into dating hell. He believes that if you spend more time than two phone conversations before you actually meet, that you then fall into the jaws of the false expectations pit by building up in your mind a fantasy person. Although internet photos are exchanged and some of your deepest, darkest secrets are exposed to one another, you still have no clue who you are really dealing with until you meet face to face. My male friends answer to this false expectation dilemma is that one must absolutely meet if not for anything more than a cup of coffee and a half hour of each others time by the end of the second phone conversation.

Another dilemma that has been reported by both men and women is of long distance relationships, where one or both partners travel to see each other. In reporting a recent experience by a female friend of mine, she states that: a man flew in from Timbuktu, Alaska (all names and places are changed to protect identities) for a twenty four hour period to meet her. By the end of the evening, to her dismay, she realized that this mans expectations were that of a roll in the hay with sprinkles on top. To his dismay, no exotic holiday cupcakes on the menu that evening. The evening will go down in history as one of her most distasteful dating experiences ever. What were the red flags for dating disaster here? In this case, both parties expectations failed. She was expecting a well-educated gentleman; he was expecting a POA (piece of ass).

So the lesson here, of internet dating, blind dating, or hooking up during the holidays is to put it out there who you really are, what you want, and where your willing to go in the entire dating process. As long as you know that you have truthfully posted recent and accurate photos (both parties), are within three years of your actual age posted online, and don't have a current or ex-lover in your closet at home you should be able to enjoy this wonderful season with a date or two that wont end up in the Guinness Book of Records for worst holiday date ever.

How to Grow Houseplants for Your Larder

Whether you grow the one or both, use a seed box containing up to two inches of finely sifted soil, light and well drained. Sow the seed thickly on the surface and do not cover this but press it down firmly into the surface. Water well, place inside a transparent plastic bag and put away in an airing cupboard or some similar place where the temperature will be fairly steady at between 5o and 60F.

I have yet to meet a woman gardener who is not more thrilled and satisfied by her radish and lettuce than by her chrysanthemums, who does not tend her herbs with greater care than her alpines. Once these women learn that they can grown fresh chives on their kitchen window sills, few dishes seem to appear without this garnish and once the breakthrough occurs there is no holding them.

All growing plants have something attractive about them, and if this attraction can be accompanied by a useful service, then we gain double value. And besides being natural bargain hunters, all women are cooks, either by choice or by necessity so if they can grow something themselves for the pot without necessarily possessing a vegetable garden, they can bask in the twin glows of virtue and achievement.

Just as easy and quick to grow, using almost exactly the same methods, are Chinese bean sprouts, sometimes known as Mung beans. These normally come from the seedman in a pack containing between a half and one pound, with a special growing punnet.

By trial and error you will soon find how many seeds should be sown for a single meal or helping, for unlike mustard and cress this is seldom a crop that can be used with a large number of dishes. On the other hand, they make an excellent and welcome addition to soups, stews and salads, and once tried many uses can be found for them.

Alternatively, give an entire container over to mint, perhaps of several different kinds, and permit the roots to take over completely.

With no one expecting him to win, and everything at risk, Speed Racer partners up with his old rival Racer X, to try to win The Crucible, and keep his families racing business alive.

Fort Worth Botanical Garden

I really did not understand what had gotten my friend hyped up when I told her to go to Fort Worth Botanical Gardens to relax. Apparently, the effect she got was somewhat reversed for her.

The Fort Worth Botanical Gardens is a collection of different themed gardens, just west of central downtown. It's a highly relaxing sanctuary of plants, water, birds and beasts. An aria of different plants, all from different biomes around the world are collected and grown, planted and displayed for everyone to see.

What's awesome? Free parking! I don't know about you, but parking had always been one of the bigger hassles when it came to trying to relax to some 'spa' or some 'nature park'. Having your parking worries quelled is one way to stifle problems when it comes to relaxing.

The gardens they boast are NUMEROUS. They have rose gardens, fuller gardens, Japanese gardens, perennial gardens, fragrance gardens, trial gardens, four seasons, the Texas Native boardwalk, the Conservatory, the Water Conservation Garden and the Water Wise Garden. Of note is the Rose garden, which was inspired by Italy's Villa Lante and has a lot of vista views. The garden is pock-marked with bushes of rosy goodness everywhere. The Japanese garden is also of note, as it is a few of the places you actually have to pay to get in. But it's worth seeing the friendly koi amble with your finger as you dip it in the pond.

The park offers a slew of events like volunteer workshops, festivals, children's gardens and what not. It's a community effort, one that connects people together as they hoe the fields, plant the seedlings and enjoy the time together under the shade of a tree.

Perhaps, there is more to it than just staying at Fort Worth Botanical Gardens.

Propagating Houseplants from Stem Cuttings

This is a very different method indeed, and so simple and fool proof that many house plant owners have been using it without even knowing! Each time you pinch out the overgrown shoot of a tradescantia and push the pinched stem end into the soil of the pot to make a new growth, you are taking a stem cutting. Success rates are obviously higher if a greater degree of care is taken, but the process is essentially a simple one that can be carried out almost without failure by the beginner indoor gardener.

Although best results are obtained by early pricking out of young plants into larger pots, this can be a delicate process and if you are at all doubtful or inexperienced it is wiser to let the seedlings grow a little longer before you do this.

On the other hand, some plants such as ivies, some philodendrons, coleus and certain other plants will form roots quite easily in water alone. Take the cutting and merely stand the cut end in a little phial or jar of clean water, allowing it to stay there until roots are seen to have formed. It is possible then either to pot up the new plant in the normal way, or to add soil or the peat mixture gradually to the water until the correct consistency has been achieved.

Once roots have formed and the new plant is growing strongly, whichever method has been used, then it can be planted up separately, always using a pot only just large enough to hold the roots without cramping them.

Because a shoot cut from the parent plant is no longer receiving any nutrition nor any moisture through its stem yet is transpiring through its leaves, these cuttings will sometimes wilt and in time even die.

Under soil heating and the high humidities normally only available in a propagating case or a heated greenhouse are really necessary for germinating some of the more exotic seeds. But if these are available it is extremely satisfying to produce plants from some of the jungle forest bromeliads to conifers of the northern fjords. Temperatures of between 7o and 8oF. are frequently required to achieve germination, but still another advantage of this critical and expensive means of propagation is that by its means some of the less frequently seen varieties may be raised, varieties which are not normally to be seen on sale simply because they are both difficult and expensive. So in short, this is really a method for the connoisseur.

What are leis?

Leis are what you call those flowery necklaces all visitors get when they first step foot into Hawaii. It is a sign of hospitality and respect for both the host and the visitor. When you are offered a lei, one should never reject the offering. It is a sign of great disrespect. Leis signify the host welcoming the visitor into the country. It also symbolizes the Hawaiian's spirit of friendship, hope and family. But how do you make one?

Leis are easy to make. All you have to do is to gather the required materials and begin with your work. Make sure to use sturdy and hardy flowers, like orchids for example. And avoid using too fragrant flowers, some people might be allergic to them, especially those with allergies or rhinitis. Also for those who might have allergies to pain, make sure that the flowers have dried out and are at least one-day old. This is also to make sure that if the flowers do have poisonous saps, toxins, or fluids; they would at least be away from the skin. Dried sap does the same damage as age-old resin.

To start off, you need a needle, thread, scissors, and the flowers to be used. Thread the string through the flower's centers using the blunt needle and continue on until you reach at least a few feet. Leis are supposed to be worn in the neck up to the shoulders. Barry Bonds

The success of Barry Bonds' baseball career was really just the beginning of a story that may eventually overshadow his achievements. As an outfielder, Bonds racked up four MVP awards, each one of them in consecutive years. He was a player in the 2007 World Series, and has become one of the most well known baseball players of his time. In 2006, he was busy slugging homeruns and passed Ruth and Aaron to land in first place for the most homers of any ball player.

Unfortunately, it seems as if Bonds may have had help achieving this feat and there could be an asterisk next to this record. Rumors of steroid use swirled around Bonds and he was not a fan favorite, to put it mildly. Bonds didn't seem to care much for the fans either and Bonds managed to alienate fans and sportswriters alike. Bonds still holds the home run record at 762, as well as the record for the most home runs in a single season (73). While an accomplished player, Binds managed to burn a lot of bridges and no team in the Major Leagues would sign him on for the 2008 season.

Having already broken many records and his financial future in no doubt, Bonds was investigated in relation to his steroid use as part of the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative case and has been charged with perjury and obstruction of justice for lying about his use of steroids.

This case cast considerable doubts on his career. Obviously, his MVP awards and his other achievements were questioned heavily by the public as well as by the governing agencies of the sport. Baseball fans and baseball team owners now frown heavily on achievements recognized during periods when steroid use has come into play.

This overshadowed an impressive baseball career that started out in high school. As he was finishing his final term in high school, Bonds was approached by the Giants. As he finished his high school career, the negotiations between Bonds and the Giants were not going as well as projected, and college seemed like a better choice. He continued to play baseball in college and excelled during this time, including seven consecutive hits during the College World Series. He was then named the All American selection that year by Sporting News.

Barry Bonds is still facing obstruction of justice charges that will not be heard in court until March of 2009. The federal prosecutor had submitted paperwork with a typo, alleging that the steroid use, which Bonds still argues he did not take knowingly, was tested for, and found positive in 2001 rather than the year 2000. This year makes a difference due to testing laws that were not implemented until a later date.

Despite these charges, Barry Bonds has been spending a great deal of his time devoted to children's hospitals and sick or dying children. His outreach has touched the lives of many children, including some that were not able to survive their disease. He holds the Honorary Chair position for the Macy's fundraiser known as the Macy's Tree Lighting Ceremony. This fundraiser helps raise money for UCSF Children's Hospital Palliative Care Program, a setting for terminally ill children and their families.

What do flowers mean?

Thinking of sending flowers to someone? Before you do, read this article first. Flowers have their own language and they can say many things depending on their color, number and arrangement.

Sending the wrong kind of flowers is not only embarrassing but can be disastrous to any relationship. If you don't know the secret meaning of flowers, you're likely to send the wrong message or offend someone.

The study of the language of flowers is called floriography and it was used by early man to convey secret and subtle messages that would otherwise be difficult to say.

The Victorians were experts in the language of flowers. Their knowledge reportedly came from the Turks who used flowers as a discreet form of communication. Their coded messages were referred to as a "Persian Salaam" and these usually revealed feelings of love.

This Turkish secret was revealed in 1718 by Lady Mary Wortley, the wife of the British ambassador to Constantinople. Wortley discovered the hidden meanings of flowers during her frequent visits to Turkey.

Later Louise Cortambert wrote a book on the subject in 1819 under the pseudonym Madame Charlotte de la Tour. Her popular reference work was called "Le Language des Fleurs."

The language of flowers became well-known during the Victorian era and allowed women to speak their mind at a time when it was difficult if not impossible for them to do so.

This practice later led to the publication of another book called "The Language of Flowers" by Jean Marsh in 1884. Like its predecessor, that illustrated book became a popular reference material.

Tips on Caring for Your Houseplants for Beginners

It is best to plunge them in a good layer of peat or some similar substance so that the almost inevitable neglect of a day or two will not cause them to dry out and burn away in the heat of the sun. Delicate plants should be given some shading from the hottest rays of the sun. A porch, a shaded frame or even a place in the flower border are all helpful.

As might be expected, these plants tend to suffer through their experiences. They may be in offices or exhibition halls where virtually the only light available to them is artificial. They may suffer neglect through lack of water and extremes of temperature. Certainly the air will lack almost any evidence of humidity. Yet in spite of these difficulties the plants so often (yet not always !) look splendid, decorative and in excellent health. How is this achieved?

Simply by allowing the plants to stay in these conditions only for a limited time. They are then removed and fresh specimens substituted. The tired plants are taken back to the contractor's premises and given a new lease of life by being stood in a greenhouse with all the right amounts of light, heat and humidity. In a few weeks they have recovered their strength sufficiently to go out on another job.

Most of these women have perforce to live in cities or urban circumstances where again natural light is poor, meagre and diffused. Because under these circumstances lightness and brightness are consciously sought palliatives, recourse is made to the gayer and brighter plants, saint paulias, busy tizzies, azaleas and cyclamen, all flowering plants that demand a considerable light intensity to flourish.

So for your south facing windows reserve space for cacti and succulents, begonias, saintpaulias, pelargoniums, poinsettias, all bulb flowers such as daffodils, hyacinths and tulips, and all flowering plants such as chrysanthemums, cinerarias, primulas and the like.

On the other hand, let us not dismiss too quickly all possibility of growing colorful plants under poor light conditions. First, it may be possible to move plants closer to a light source, that is, closer to the nearest window. Secondly, it may be possible with minor reorganization to move plants nearer to a south or west window than to the east or north where they normally stand. A light painted wall or a strategically placed mirror or other reflective surface can add substantially to the total quantity of light available, as a light meter will quickly reveal. Any or all of these possibilities should be investigated where there is any doubt about the total quantity of light available.

It has always seemed a great pity to me that the old-fashioned conservatory has disappeared. With its tiled floor, glazed windows and roof and its heating pipes it was the perfect place in which to grow plants of almost all kinds. We have neither the space nor the income today to indulge ourselves with such luxuries, but nevertheless this is one of the major extension plans for our own home. Luxuries are enjoyable!

Most of these structures are made of timber and unless special arrangements have been made all are single glazed. This means that in the winter months they can get very cold, particularly during the hours of darkness.

The seven-angled roof, like the walls, will be double glazed to conserve warmth and the roof panels will have between the two vacuum sealed sheets of glass a film of white fiber glass. This will admit as much light as possible but will filter out strong sunlight.

Aspidistras, syngoniums, sansevierias, some philodendrons, araucarias, scinclapsus need little light. Better light is required by saintpaulias, bromeliads, maranta, pilca, peperomias, and dracaenas. Really good light is necessary for coleus, crotons, impatiens, sedums, beloperone and kalanchoes.

Curtains should be installed, preferably for all windows, but certainly for those windows that face the south, otherwise the room can heat up to dangerous levels during the hottest months of the year.

Nutrients, whether in the form of organic manure or inorganic fertilizer, should ideally be applied just before and during the main growing season. The best way to feed roses is to scatter a rose fertilizer, available from garden centers or in larger quantities from agricultural suppliers, on the ground around the roots in spring and early summer.

In the garden it is normally a simple matter to define what is meant by a tree, a shrub, herbaceous perennials, annuals, climbers, creepers, ground covers, water or bog plants, even cacti and succulents. Yet when we come to indoor gardening we find that the range of plants we can grow includes all of these. We are limited only by size. So when we talk about house plants we can, in the widest sense, mean any plants of any kinds.

This is, of course, stretching the definition to its farthest range and although it gives some idea of the scope of house plants and the activity of indoor gardening, it will be more helpful to be somewhat more precise.

A practical breakdown of this sweeping definition is to divide house plants into permanent and temporary house plants.

Others with less green fingers will proclaim with a kind of wry pride that they can kill any indoor plant almost in a matter of minutes!

Yet one of the fascinations of indoor plant growing is that even those who cannot grow house plants still like to try to constantly seek the elusive secret, asking eagerly how often their ivy should be watered and with what quantity, which foods are the best, what temperature and aspect is most likely to be successful.

There can be perfectly genuine physical reasons why certain house plants fail to flourish with a certain person. The house can be too hot or too cold, too dry or too damp; the air may be polluted with domestic gas or industrial fumes; the light may be too poor either because of small or dark windows or because of grey city smog; even the domestic water supply may be too hard or too heavily chlorinated for certain plants.

Water Helps Your Houseplants to Be Healthy

Experience is the best guide to watering requirements, but experience can be expensive.

Follow these basic rules and as a general rule for most plants you will not go wrong. Never water any plant where the soil surface appears to be moist.

Other plants with this obliging habit are coleus, oleander, primulas and to a lesser extent the Stag's Horn fern, Platycerium bifurcatum and several of the vines such as cissus, rhoicissus and tetrastigma.

Most plants, unfortunately, give us no such signal, and indeed some, such as the rubber plant, exhibit the same symptoms if they are either over or underwatered : the lower leaves begin to turn yellow and then drop off. By the time these symptoms are seen, recognized and acted upon, it is too late and the majority of the leaves will then fall as a result of this neglect. Other plants, such as the chlorophytum, merely turn brown and wither at the tips of their leaves and attention to watering will prevent further leaf- tip browning if it will not cure earlier damage.

The reason for choosing midwinter's day as the critical point is simply that this is the shortest day, and the time when daylight is least.

From this it will be seen that on the average it is safer to underwater than to overwater your plants in the home. As a general rule one good watering a week will be sufficient for most plants other than the water lovers such as primulas, oleanders, cyperus, coleus, cyclamen, impatiens and the like, which may require attention twice a week. But although a weekly pilgrimage through the plants with watering can may be sufficient, this by no means ensures that all plants will require the same amount of water each time, nor that they will require the same amount in summer or winter.

Rainwater can be used to house several ornamental fish, nor why a miniature fountain or water splash, a bubble or gurgle fountain should not be installed, both to increase the decorative and interest-making value of the area and to assist with the creation of the necessary humidity.

This plant material, some of it highly exotic and unusual, can be brought into the home for special occasions or when at its best, and then returned after a few days to rest, recuperate and recover from the brief spell in the wilderness.

Seeds can be raised, new plants grown from cuttings or layers. There's a host of ideas and abilities newly available with such an attractive addition to the house.

BOLT: Bolt is a movie for the whole family. Bolt is a dog actor, who in his role on television, is a super hero dog. His problem is that he honestly believes he has superpowers. After he is unexpectedly finds himself in a real world situation, he discovers that he is just a dog. On a journey to get back home, he is aided by Mittens, the cat, and Rhino, the hampster.

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS: It was a wild night in Las Vegas. Young partiers Joy and Jack wake up and soon realize that they had married each other the night before. Water is Essential for Your Houseplants to Be Healthy

Water is essential to all forms of life. No life can exist without moisture. Food, warmth and light are all less important than water, and just as humans can live longer without food than they can without water, so can plants.

But note this excess of watering. It comes through the hole at the base of the pot and more or less fills the saucer or other container. Yet after an hour or so this excess moisture has once again been absorbed by the pot. If the soil were thoroughly clamp this could not occur. So this can be one guide to us : allow water to trickle through the base of the pot, leave it there for up to an hour and then throw the surplus away. This way one can be sure that adequate water has been applied, but that the soil in the pot is not completely waterlogged, in other words that air space is left for the plant roots to breathe.

On a hot, sunny day, the quantity of carbon dioxide around the roots of a plant can increase tenfold in a single day and this is frequently the cause of the wilting that we see under these conditions.

The plant is then removed and placed to drain. Water will swiftly course out of the hole in the base of the pot and as this rushes away oxygen is sucked into the pot and quickly fills the vacated pores.

It is helpful to know the two functions of the process of watering to understand why the application of water to a house plant is a vital matter. When you pour water on the soil at the base of a plant this water quickly disappears downwards through the soil and if sufficient has been applied it trickles out through the hole or holes at the base of the pot.

Now when this water courses through the soil it drags clown after it by suction a certain amount of air. Both water and air are essential to the life of the plant roots.

The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas

During my recent trip to Las Vegas I stayed at the Mirage Hotel. This hotel is owned by the MGM company. The property is decorated beautifully and is worth the money. My stay was perfect. I would say that if you are going to book this property, however, just pay for the standard, don't go for the upgraded room unless you are getting suite. Check out the Secret Garden while you are there.

If you are choosing this property don't pay the extra money for the room with the jetted tub on floors 24 and 25. The tub is nice, but the rooms are much smaller than the standard room. I would say you have about a 25-50 percent chance of a strip view, but I think they charge extra for that.

We went to the Secret Garden which is a zoo just out back of the hotel. I believe admission is $20 for the day. They have white tigers, a white lion, and dolphins. It is worth the money for what you get. They have up close views of the animals, and they have trainers that will tell you everything about them. Everyone there is real friendly. Plus right now they have white tiger cubs and 2 baby dolphins.

The hotel is decorated in tropical decor. They have a Beatles nightclub called Revolution, and many stores within the hotel for shopping. The hotel is also center strip which gives you access to all kinds of great hotels. We went next door and saw the pirate show at Treasure Island. There is also a revamped volcano show at the mirage, but we missed it because we were too busy.

I give this hotel a thumbs up, or five stars. If you want to stay in a good location on the strip, the Mirage should be one of your options. Like I said though, just book the standard, I think it is more of a value when it comes to space.

Johnson

Magic "Earvin" Johnson, Jr. was born on August 14, 1959 in Landing, Michigan. His career began at Everett High School in Lansing and he went on to Michigan State before being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1979. Magic had nine brothers and sisters and his father worked for General Motors while his mother was a school custodian. In his own words, Magic would say as a kid, "I practiced all day and I dribbled to the store with my right hand and back with my left-I even slept with my basketball."

It was while still in high school that Johnson acquired his famous nickname. A sportswriter covering a high school game felt that no other word could adequately describe Johnson's skill with the ball. Johnson wanted to stay near his family after high school, so he attended Michigan State also in East Lansing. Even on the Michigan State Spartans, he achieved some notoriety, with scores of up to 17 in a single game. With Johnson, the Spartans took a Big Ten conference title and racked up a 25-5 record! In his second year on the team, the Spartans took on Indiana State (then featuring Larry Bird) to won the national title in what was one of the most highly followed NCAA games of all time.

Johnson made the decision to go professional and entered into the 1979 draft. Johnson was quickly drafted by the LA Lakers. LA fans were eager to see this famed college player wear the Lakers uniform and he didn't disappoint them. While the NBA's Rookie if the year award went to Larry Bird that year, Magic Johnson did help the Lakers to win the NBA championship in his first season, achieving an impressive 60-22 record. The Lakers were unstoppable the next season as well, with Johnson becoming the first rookie to start in an All Star game since the late sixties.

The 1980 NBA finals saw another amazing performance from Johnson against the Philadelphia 76ers. Johnson scored 42 points, 15 boards, 7 assists and 3 steals in the series. Magic became the first rookie ever to win the MVP award in the finals. Magic was modest as usual about his achievement: "I just wanted to do whatever the (Lakers) needed to do to win. I was having fun." However, the next year would see Johnson sidelined for 45 games due to torn cartilage in his knee.

Johnson recovered from his injury and the Lakers came back in a big way for the 1981-1982 season. The Lakers handily won their division title and again took on the 76ers in the finals, with another win for the Lakers and another MVP award for Johnson. While Johnson took some heat for the comments he made about Lakers coach Paul Westhead (who was replaced by the now legendary Pat Riley and left himself for the Chicago Bulls), he never let the criticism get to him and his performance in the game was never less than astounding.

In 1984, Magic signed a $25 million dollar contract with the Lakers and they won three NBA titles in the following four years. In the 1986-87 season, he scored an astounding 38 points against Houston and 46 points against the Sacramento Kings-a career high. During this season, he also achieved a career-high average of 23.9 points per game- and Johnson was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player of the Year. He would win this award again in 1989 and 1990.

Prior to the 1991-92 season, Magic made the announcement that he had tested positive for the HIV virus and would be retiring. He did play at the All-Star game that year and won the game's MVP Award, but at this point in his career, Magic turned to outreach-for HIV and AIDS and received the leagues J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. Not one to be kept down, Magic played for the 1992 US Olympic "Dream Team, wrote a book on safe sexual practices, and ran several businesses. He worked for NBC as a sports commentator and with only sixteen games left in the 1993-94 season, he took the offer of replacing Randy Pfund as the Lakers head coach.

Magic Johnson, in his thirteen NBA seasons came away with 17,707 points, 19.5 points per game average, 6,559 rebounds, and 10,141 assists. He also had an impressive 1,724 steals placing him at ninth place on the all-time list. In 1996-97, he was invited to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and in 2002, he entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Magic was a star in basketball and perhaps a former NBA player who knew him best, said it best-"Magic is head-and-shoulders above everybody else. I've never seen anybody as good as him,"-Larry Bird.

Decorating Your Home with Indoor Plants

Encourage climbers to climb. Or conversely, allow them to hang downwards from a height, in which case many of them will attempt to fulfill their real function and will turn the ends of their long trails upwards in the most elegant manner.

Let trailers hang by placing them on a pedestal, shelf, for they look better, more natural this way and give greatest value. Use sprawlers to cover the bare soil area of surrounding pots or to writhe uninhibited across a mantelpiece. Judicious pinching out of misplaced or too strong shoots will keep a bush looking like a bush and encourage a spear-like plant to remain looking this way.

Vivid colours, yellow, orange, white and brilliant red are advancing. They come out to meet you and so tend to make a room appear to be shorter if placed at the far end. And conversely, dark colors, mainly greens of course, are receding and tend to look farther away than they really are, thus lengthening a short room. A tall rubber plant or fatshedera will make a room look higher, for the eye tends to follow the growth upwards, while a high ceiling can appear to be lower if horizontal growing plants catch the eye.

An impression of warmth is given if a wall is covered with the trained tendrils and shoots of a growing plant or if warm colors are used. And as might be expected, a hot summer day can be cooled indoors by the decorative use of cool greens, purples and dark colors in general.

Regard, for example, the cissus, rhoicissus, ivy, several philodendrons and the dramatic monstera, to say nothing of the huge and rampant tetrastigma. All of these can be trained to cover a wall, to climb to the ceiling and follow the wall around the room. One tetrastigma in our possession once grew near the front door, climbed to the ceiling, was led along to the stairway, climbed up the stair well and was stopped just before it invaded one of the bedrooms. One ten year old cissus still grows happily in a Victorian washbowl without drainage holes. It frames an arch between kitchen and dining-room and shows no signs of its hardships suffered when building operations dictated its removal and storage, twisted and tangled like a cat-teased ball of knitting wool, for several months before being unravelled and trained once again along its almost invisible supports of cotton.

A great chlorophytum stands six feet high in the bowl of an old oil-lamp standard, its elegant green and white striped grass like leaves arching into the air and its long stems bearing the little white flowers and the young plants at their ends swooping outwards to hang in graceful clusters.
