4 Ways to a Happy Valentine

By Stylelife Coaches

When you first start dating someone close to February 14th, it can be a bit scary. Read ahead and we'll make sure you surpass her expectations on this special day.

PICK A PRESENT

The wrong gift can potentially lead to discomfort on your date. If you just started seeing one another, a gift is not required, just a pleasant evening will work. When you take her out, pay for the activities and purchase a great bottle of champagne if it's within your means.

If Valentine's Day happens to land in the early stages of a new romance (a few dates, before sex), it can be pretty tricky. In addition to the above, flowers are ok...but have them delivered prior to the date (sweet), do not hand carry them (try hard). If you do choose to do flowers, avoid a dozen roses. One or three is great.

The gift changes if you're in a casual relationship that is purely physical. The gift for this person can be more erotic and reflect the nature of the hot relationship. Sexy but not degrading. Walk into the nearest sex shop and you'll find something good...

THE DATE

Gift...check. Now onto the date. Use the day to flirt with her sexually and textually. Keep her excited throughout the day with fun teasing texts. Make her know it is not just a normal date.

Today is about her. It's about the two of you. Any man can give sweet candy and roses to a girl, but how you give them to her is what makes all the difference. Just because you're doing all these things, don't forget to stay the same guy she fell for. Be playful and fun. Fascinate her mind. Her mental stimulation is far more important than any place or event you take her.

DESSERT

After dinner, invite her back to you place for a special dessert you made. Chocolate will unlock her desires. Strawberries will put her over the edge. Combine the two for a dynamite night of seduction.

TURN ON THE ROMANCE

If you really want to create special sensual effects for her, focus on stimulating all her senses at once with one or more of the following:

* Select fresh flowers and place them throughout your apartment

* Get some champagne. Excite her taste and touch as the champagne tingles her nose while it enters her mouth.

* A sensual body massage using some lavender oils.

Dating someone new close to Valentine's day may be a bit tricky. Be sure to stay on top of her comfort and keep it spicy with attraction. In the end, it is about creating a pleasant memory for the two of you.

Free Houseplants Tips and Information

By Scottish Derek

It is no accident that the countries most noted for their displays of plants in the home are all in cool climates, for where it is comparatively easy to warm a house up to comfortable living standards it is not so simple a matter to keep a house cool unless one resorts to hermetically sealed air conditioned practices.

Nor is it any accident that the present fascination with house plants has arrived at the same time as modern building innovations which give us large windows double glazed against the cold, central heating systems that provide uniform warmth without smoke, fumes or droughts.

Less than a hundred years ago only the most stately homes were able to mount displays of plants comparable to those seen today, and these succeeded only because the plants could be brought indoors for special occasions and then removed again by one of the garden staff to the conservatories, greenhouses and stove houses.

These may be minor differences but they are significant and it is well worth while observing closely the differences in the quantity and quality of light admitted by your own windows, for few face directly on to the points of the compass.

The point was made just now that if a plant appears not to be getting sufficient light it should be moved gradually to a brighter situation rather than subjected immediately to the considerable shock of a complete change of circumstance. In fact all changes of living conditions for plants should be gradual rather than immediate.

It is when we come to propagate plants from cuttings, offshoots or even seed that higher temperatures are necessary to produce quickly a strong and viable root system. Some house plants in the course of time will have grown to such dimensions or will have been trained to walls or other fitments in the home in such a manner that the plants cannot be moved to another situation.

Indoor Gardening Guide

Alternatively a good position for plants liking good light but not direct sun is to place them at right angles to the south window, those nearest the glass requiring the most light and working downwards. But the south windows are the only ones that need concern us with a possible excess of light.

An atmosphere of this kind is deadly to all but the least sensitive of indoor plants and if a festive gathering is planned or expected it is wise to remove from the room to a cooler spot all plants such as African violets, poinsettias and others that would certainly suffer. They can be replaced in the morning.

It is unfortunate that so many gift plants, given and received at Christmas, frequently have to begin their lives in their new homes under the worst possible conditions. If the plants must be on show, possibly because the donors are to be present, it is a compliment to them to allow the plants to be seen and admired and for them then to be removed to a cooler room with an explanation for the move. Where rooms are heated directly, whether the means are radiators, electric fires or gas burners, it seems obvious to suggest that all plants should be stood well away from these sources of heat. No directly radiated heat should be allowed to strike directly on to any plant, regardless of kind or tolerance. And further, any appliance that burns coal, coke, gas or oil, no matter how efficient nor how vociferous the supplier in proper defense of his appliances, will give out some noxious effluent of poisonous fumes.

Yet unless the chimney is blocked there is a constant stream of warm air traveling along the floor and up this chimney and plants there can be seriously affected. Again, many of us like to have plants in a hallway or near the front door, for this is a means of providing a welcome to our guests. But if this doorway admits a blast of cold winter air when it is opened the plants should receive some sort of protection to avoid damage to them.

In general central heating is the best form of heating for house plants, with a gentle heat which is well spread over the entire atmosphere and no central or closely located heat spots exist to burn the delicate tissues of plants. Where plants are to be situated above or near to radiators, fit deflector plates to move the direct convected heat away from or around the plants.

On the other hand, this does not mean that plants must be protected from all fresh air. They enjoy, even need, fresh air and should be given what nurserymen describe technically as a `buoyant' atmosphere in preference to one that is stuffy and stagnant.

Houseplants Watering Tips and Information

By Cassandra Ferrington

The drainage material in the base of the container does not actually get rid of the water. It merely holds it beneath the soil level and can release it to the soil as it is required. So this reservoir of water must not be allowed to rise to danger levels and flood the soil itself.

All this means that plants in containers without drainage holes should, as a general rule, receive less water than those in normal pots. For this reason it is not generally satisfactory to try to grow plants in containers without drainage holes unless you have yourself potted them and are aware of the degree of drainage material available to the roots of the plant.

I do suggest, however, that the comparatively large leaves of a Ficus elastica or Monstera deliciosa should be cleaned carefully at least two or three times a year. Do this with a soft sponge or tissue well wetted with clean, tepid water. Do not use milk or oil, however glossy these may make the leaves, for they leave a film on the surface that will inhibit transpiration.

There are one or two proprietary liquids on the market which can be used either as sprays or washes and these have been proved to be safe. Careful and adequate summer sprays with clean water will alone do much to keep large leaves clean, but if spraying cannot be carried out because of the propinquity of delicate furnishings, it then clean large leaves carefully.

See that the soil surface is almost white in appearance and almost dusty in texture. This, though not an infallible cure, is about the only means of escaping the dangers of overwatering.

For those plants which are growing in decorative pots or bowls without drainage holes, how do we ensure that the roots are not waterlogged and how often should we water? All plants growing in containers without drainage holes must have a layer of drainage material beneath their roots which will ensure that they are not perpetually standing in water.

Free Bonsai Tips for Bonsai Gardeners

By Tony Wilhem

When you have completed the actual pruning process you will probably find that the tree approaches the shape you have in mind, but that one or two of the tiny branches need to be bent upwards, downwards or sideways. This is where deft fingers come into the picture.

Take a piece of soft copper wire and twist it gently around the stem or branch which is to be bent, one end twisted firmly around the main trunk, buried in the soil or attached to the pot or container.

The other end will be twisted along the branch which is to be bent and then snipped off just short of the end. Now you will find that you can very gently bend the copper wire and that it will stay in the required position, holding the branch quite firmly.

Sift in some of your fresh compost and then place the tree in position, covering gently with new soil until the level reaches almost to the top of the container. Firm this securely around the roots, making quite sure that the tree is held quite rigidly in position. Test by shaking gently. If the tree quivers in its pot and the soil is disturbed by root movement, firm the soil down again to anchor the plant and if this too does not succeed, secure the tree by tiny guy wires to the sides of the container.

If it is allowed to stay too long it is possible that the swelling trunk may press against it to the extent that the bark is impressed with the line of the wire. If this appears to be happening, loosen or remove the wire, replacing it with a slightly looser length.

Having carried out the initial training, leave the young plant alone to grow for the next few months. Do not constantly fuss over it but let it settle clown to grow strong and sturdy. It will not require re-potting for at least a year if the process was carried out correctly in the first place and so long as adequate water and care is given to the plant.

The Bed and Breakfast Experience.

By Dave McKinney

"The Bed and Breakfast Experience" is the term sometimes used to describe the differences offered by bed and breakfasts compared to hotels. Instead of staying in a predictable hotel you will experience individual charm and individual attention.

At a bed and breakfast you will enjoy hotel amenities with added personal touches. B&Bs have been described as the next best thing to staying with friends; perhaps better since you can get away and be private. You are even greeted by name! Each B&B is a home as individual as its owners. There is, or should be, no sense of trespassing in someone's home; privacy is paramount.

There's somewhere for everyone to stay: a heritage home, sea-view guest house, elegant inn, country cottage, contemporary home, farm or a woodland retreat. Older houses may ooze charm furnished with antiques whilst contemporary homes have the crisp, sharp lines of modern dcor.

Bed and breakfasts provide good value for money since a full breakfast is included in the rate. Further, you will often receive free parking, free movies and free local telephone calls. Business travelers will appreciate the wireless internet and sometimes full business center facilities.

Amenities and dcor vary greatly, as do price points, so it can be a daunting task to find the right quality of accommodation when browsing through the many bed and breakfast websites in the area of your choice. "Read between the lines" of their websites to find an inn to meet your expectations. Good quality B&Bs generally have good quality websites: you can expect to see an availability calendar with easy online reservations, a toll-free telephone service and easy-to-navigate information. Ponder the ambience of the rooms, house and gardens. Check the amenities whether for business needs or for a relaxing break. Are there desirable special offerings like packages, in-room massages, jacuzzis or hot-tubs, garden seating, private entrances? Are children or pets welcomed?

Reputable bed and breakfasts often subscribe to ratings organisations and associations with exacting inspection and approval standards. If you book with a bed and breakfast which meets these requirements you should be assured that you will not be disappointed by its quality so look for such logos on websites.

Unlike other accommodations a bed and breakfast is typically a private residence whose owners have chosen this type of business because they enjoy meeting people. What better way to experience the richness of an area than to stay in bed and breakfasts whose hosts gladly provide concierge insights into area tourist attractions, activities, restaurants as well as local tips?

In a B&B the beds and the breakfasts are equally important. You will sleep on comfortable beds snuggled in designer linens and awake to savour a full memorable breakfast including home baking and local produce.

If this is to be your first bed and breakfast experience it very likely will not be your last.

How to Care for Houseplants

By Aspley Nursery

Although much of this is again a matter of personal taste, some preferring contrasts to subtle blending in form or colour, the matter of size is to a large degree a question of plantsmanship.

An over-watered plant dies from drowning. In a later chapter the vexed question of watering is examined in greater detail, but a brief description of the double function of watering might be helpful here.

All plants, with these sentimental exceptions, are expendable and no plant which has passed its best should be allowed space in the home. A plant that is no longer decorative gives a shabby look to a room, but aesthetics apart, a sick or elderly plant too often harbours and spreads disease and so should be removed as soon as it is no longer attractive.

Temporary plants in particular can be so strikingly attractive when at their best that there exists a strong temptation to retain them longer than is wise. Resist this and be quite ruthless in your decision to harbour only those plants which are in their peak of condition. There is little difference in cost between a house plant and a bunch of cut flowers, yet when flowers die in their vases they are thrown out while too often the value of the plant is given as a reason for holding on to it after it has passed its prime.

Unfortunately with many plants the symptoms of over-watering are almost identical with those shown when the plant is dry, a frequent cause of fury and frustration to the newcomer to the house plant world.

What is important, on the other hand, is that plants should bear some architectural relationship to their surroundings, in colour, texture, shape, form or size.

Blackberry Fruit Tree

By Dorothy Pooh

The soil in which the cuttings are to be struck should be free from perennial weeds. The rows should be 18 inches apart, and the cuttings should be 5 inches apart in the rows.

They should be inserted in the soil in such a way that only an inch is seen above soil level. This can either be done by getting out a trench 8 inches deep with one straight side and laying the cuttings in this upright. The soil should then be put back and be trodden firmly afterwards. The other method is to fork the soil over so as to make it puffy, i.e. light and friable, and then it should be possible to push the cuttings upright into the soil.

If canes are allowed to fruit, there is always the danger that (a) virus diseases will be perpetuated by means of the suckers, and (b) that some of the fruit will drop to the ground, with the result that useless seedlings may arise which will grow so fast that they take charge of the row. The writer has seen this happen more than once.

Those who are anxious to extend their raspberry rows by means of suckers from their own canes should be quite certain that the parent canes are healthy. It might be allowable and advisable to propagate from canes received from a certified source, say for the first two or three years after planting.

Blackcurrants perhaps are easier to propagate than any other soft fruit. The cuttings should be taken immediately after leaf fall, the idea being to choose the well-ripened shoots of the current year's growth. Each cutting should be 9 or 10 inches long and should be prepared by making a cut with the sharp blade of a knife just above a bud at the top and just below a bud at the bottom.

The shoot tip which is usually somewhat unripened should always be discarded. Set the cuttings in the ground within an hour or two of their having been severed from the bushes.

Spring Flowering Bulbs

By James Cooks

Give it only enough water to keep the soil just moist at first, but when the flower bud appears gradually increase the amounts.

Mendel tulips can be placed immediately in a warm, light position when they are brought in, but all others should be given a little warmth but no light at first in order to get the stems growing well. Then bring them gradually into the light, choosing a dark corner first and moving them clay by day nearer the windows.

Some of the smaller bulbs, such as crocus, snowdrops, scillas and muscari should not be brought into the warmth and the light until the flowers are beginning to show colour. For some reason yellow crocuses resent forcing indoors, so choose other colors for this purpose or lift yellow varieties in the garden and pot them up at the last moment as they are beginning to show color and then bring them into the house.

The Scarborough lily, Blood lily and Jacobean lily, none of which are really lilies at all, can be grown easily and attractively in the home. Bulbs of the vallota, or Scarborough lily should be potted up in autumn or spring, their points just below the soil surface. Water and feed them well during the early summer and when they have flowered allow them to dry off almost completely until the following spring. Established plants should be re-potted every three or four years in the early summer.

The Blood lily, hacmanthus, should be potted in the autumn or spring, depending on whether they are early flowering types or not. The bulbs should be placed so that half the bulb protrudes above the rim of the pot.

Many bulb flowers will flower from about January or February onwards so long as they are vernalized by keeping them cool and dark . In fact it is a good thing if you enjoy bulb flowers to plant up a bowl or two every fortnight or so from September onwards to ensure that the home is always kept filled with these gay and delightful harbingers of spring. Many are scented, so bring perfume as well as color to light the darkest days.

Free Ideas on Indoor Houseplant Decoration

By Freddie May

Little plastic bags are both easy and cheap to get and they can be used in many ways in indoor gardening. One can be filled with water and hung behind the stout stem of a foliage plant to hold cut flowers for their brief lives.

They can be used as a flower pot for a small plant when it is inserted with others in a larger community container. They can be used to line a container which is cracked or otherwise not waterproof. In every case they should be concealed, of course, and fortunately, because their cost is so little, there is nothing against cutting them down to hide the edges or making use of them for a brief period only and then throwing them away.

The basic flower pot shape is not unattractive, nor is the colour or texture of a terra-cotta flower pot. But today more and more plants are being grown in plastic pots, not so attractive in colour or texture. So always conceal the pot inside another container, preferably packing the space between the two with peat or some other similar moisture retentive material.

The cover pot need not be similar in shape although most sold for this specific purpose are not only similar but usually too small. Use vases, bowls, ceramic buckets, even saucepans or other kitchen receptacles. A tall vase will frequently hold a flower pot in its wide top and this gives added height and frequently a more graceful droop to the growing plant.

Often greater decorative value from a plant can be obtained by knocking it from its original pot and growing it inside a more decorative container. This way, too, two or more plants can be grown together, their different shapes, colours and textures creating a more striking visual pattern. But if you do this, if you grow several plants together in a single bowl, always make sure that their demands for water are similar.

Or reverse the process, and when planting bulbs for forcing indoors, leave a little space in some section of the bowl so that a foliage plant can be inserted in this space when the bulbs are about to give of their best. Do not be afraid of taking advantage of the comparatively brief lives of both cut flowers and bulb flowers. In fact take advantage of every possible means of bringing added color and gaiety into the home during the dark days of winter.

Do You Need A Divorce Lawyer To Represent You?

By Kurtis Richards

Probably the most crucial aspect of choosing a divorce lawyer is that it is their specialist area of work but reliability and attitude are also important. The best attorney to employ is one who, for at least half their time, is dealing with divorce cases and is fully skilled in mediation techniques. It also follows that you feel comfortable with them and feel confident they will serve you well.

Attorneys that tend to follow the mediation route are good at giving settlement advice but you may need an attorney who is more familiar with courtroom settlements. Your divorce lawyer will be able to help with some aspects but there will be things only you can do so think carefully about what you need explained before you contact them.

Make sure you know exactly what you intend to ask and record the answers as each time you contact your lawyer there will be a charge involved so note times dates and durations of conversations. Physical meetings will cost more so if an item can be dealt with by mail or on the phone this will save money.

Your divorce attorney is just a resource for legal matters so do not try to get them personally involved as that is not their function; if you need emotional support there are others who can help with this. Unless you actually want your divorce lawyer to do something about your spouse's behavior or actions, do not use them for general complaints as it is costly and probably won't achieve anything.

Being in control of your own case and your own life is the single best thing you can do, so it is essential that you have a lawyer who can work on that basis. You are employing them for their experience but at the same time you need them to understand that it is your divorce and you want to make the decisions about how it is too proceed. You will need to instruct them to forward any information they have received to you and you expect a prompt reply to any issue you may raise.

Not all cases need a courtroom to be decided upon so you could employ a lawyer just to help you with a marital settlement, legal information or advice. This means that a little research is necessary on your part but once you have completed this, it is much easier to contact a lawyer to ask them specific questions and how they see your case concluding. You may decide to have a divorce lawyer help with your marital settlement agreement, either to draft one or just to check over one you have made yourself then contact them if you get stuck or confused.

Starting with Organic Vegetable and Herbal Gardening

By Susan Honeywell

It can seem daunting to begin with an organic vegetable or herbal garden for the first time, but there are few better ways to be good to the planet while also being good to yourself and enjoying yourself.

Organically grown vegetables and herbs are safer, healthier and also taste better than those grown with the help of chemical products, plus you can save get for free what would cost you at the grocer's.

Unless you have no space to spare at all, one of the first steps to an organic garden is to set up a composting box, which will allow you to fertilize your herbs and vegetables, while also getting rid of kitchen waste. Even if you live in a flat you can compost, as it's an odorless procedure if done right.

Your home-made compost will also fulfill a secondary purpose: it will help your organic garden to retain moisture, and as a result you will need to water your edible plants less often. Put all your kitchen waste and also any garden cuttings you may have onto the compost heap, but avoid great quantity of fish and meat remains.

The second step will be to get organic seeds so that you can start to grow vegetable and herbs in your organic garden. Don't take any seeds, the vast majority are industrially and not organically grown.

If you can't find them in your local area, there are plenty of places where to get them online. Online usually mean more choices and flexibility as well as the convenience of home delivery, so we recommend this method to make sure that you are starting with organic vegetable and herbal gardening the best way.

To begin seeding, don't start your organic garden outdoors right away! Use a glasshouse or put your seeds inside the house, where it's warm. Let them sprout on a piece of damp cotton or paper and then transfer them to small pots and let them grow a bit.

Once the first leaves are showing, put them into individual pots as a preparation to outdoor planting in your organic garden. There are some fine composting pots that you can use, plant them in the ground together with your seedling and let them act as extra natural fertilizer for your organic garden.

Now that you have compost and grown seedlings, you will also need good organic soil. This earth is much better as it acts as a natural pest controller, and will let your plants grow more vigorous. If you had a on-organic garden or flower bed where your organic garden is going to be planted, we recommend removing and substituting a layer of old soil altogether.

Once the compost is ready, use it as a top layer on your soil. About five or six centimeters think is good for outdoor use. When you water, the nutrients will slowly seep through you your organic plants' roots and the garden will thrive. You are on the right way to a serious supply of organic herbs and vegetables.

Tips on Kale

Synonyms are B. alboglabra Bailey, B. oleracea var. alboglabra (Bailey) Sun. B. oleracea var. albiflora 0. Kunze, B. oleracea var. acephala f. viridis DC., B. oleracea var. viridis L., B. oleracea var. acephala f. sabellica L. Some authorities differentiate between B. oleracea var. acephala f. sabellica L. (Borecole or Kale) and f. viridis DC. (Collard).

Common names are Kale, Borecole, Collard, Curly Kale, Green Cabbage, Curly Greens, Chinese Kale (Eng.); Chou Vert, Chou Drageons, Chou Frise" (Fr.); Berza Col (Sp.); Griinkohl (Ger.); Boerenkool (Neth.); Kaai Laan (Mal.); Kubis (Indon.); Sukuma Wild (Swah.); Laulau (Nig.); Col Rizada

Local forms have been selected for specific areas. Synonyms are B. juncea var. rugosa (Roxb.) Tsen and Lee, B. lanceolata Lange, B. cernua Forbes & Hemsley,Synapis juncea L., S. ramosa Roxb.

In general, Cauliflowers require more fertile soils than cabbages; cultivars suitable for growing in lowland tropical areas have been selected but cool conditions are normally required for optimum growth and development, such as are found in elevations above 1000 m. There are three main groups, classed according to curd development: those which will form curds and flower in hot weather conditions at fairly low elevations; the medium types which require cool conditions; and the late-maturing types which take a long time to develop curds and also require relatively low temperatures, below 25C, for curd development. At temperatures in excess of 25C, curds may become discoloured, leafy and loose. Dry, hot weather encourages the production of small, hard curds. Optimum soil pH is in the region of 6.0-7.0, acid soils are sometimes treated with lime or limestone if the pH value is too low.

Areas of cultivation is South-east Asia, including south China, Indonesia and Malaysia; East and West Africa; West Indies; and many tropical areas where it is normally treated as a perennial crop, being propagated by cuttings.

A perennial, usually grown as an annual in temperate areas, to 1 m in height. Leaves: divided or oval, on long petioles, non-heading: colour blue-green. Stems: robust, branched. Flowers: borne on elongated inflorescence, large, white. Weight of 1000 seeds = 2 g. Elevations over 500 m are most suitable for adequate growth although some cultivars are adapted to climatic conditions at low elevations. A high level of soil organic content is required for optimum growth.

Seed is sown in nursery beds and transplanted to rows 45-60 cm apart, plants 30-40 cm apart, or a square planting of 30 cm X 30 cm. Cuttings of lateral shoots may be inserted in nursery beds and transplanted. At a density of 100 000 plants/ha, 1 kg of seed is required. Irrigation is required at regular intervals since the crop has a high demand for water due to the extensive leaf area developed. NPK fertilizer should be applied before planting, with subsequent dressings of a nitrogenous fertilizer.

Container Indoor Gardening Tips

By Jenny Steward

There are several ways of increasing the relative humidity of the air in our homes. They can be expensive machines designed specifically for this purpose or they can consist of no more than an occasional pan of water left to evaporate. I do not myself believe that an expensive electric humidifier is necessarily any more efficient than some of the simpler methods of achieving the same result.

All plants tend to turn towards the light and face out of a window, thus disconcertingly turning their backs to their hosts in the home. The way to prevent this is to turn the plants a quarter turn each clay so that the growth is even.

Using any of these methods, cheap or expensive, it will be found that according to the size and warmth of the house several quarts of water a week can be diffused into the atmosphere during winter without discomfort, and indeed without even being noticeable.

It is possible to buy quite cheaply a hygrometer which will register the relative humidity of the air in a room. It is not necessary to own a hygrometer in order to grow plants well, but the possession of one does give an indication and a reminder when humidity has dropped to a lower level than is desired, for our bodies are more sensitive to warmth than to humidity and where we quickly notice that we are warm or cold we cannot determine changes in the moisture content of the air.

The simplest, though not always the most practical, is to spray these plants daily or at longer intervals, using an atomiser or fine spray specially made for this purpose. But although this is probably the most efficient way of providing essential humidity for individual plants, it is as likely as not the least efficient or tolerable operation for the housewife, for inevitably walls or furniture catch some of the drifting residue of moisture.

So efficient is this method however, that it is worth trying to find some means of protecting furnishings during the brief operation.

The method for arranging plants in a container still in their pots is slightly different, partly because the roots will still be confined inside their pots and not spreading about inside the container soil and partly because the main purpose of using this process is to allow the easy replacement of some of the pots when this appears to be necessary.

Ideally the drainage layer should be covered with a strip of hessian or some similar material that will permit the immediate passage of water through it but will not allow soil particles to be washed through and so clog the drainage.

On the other hand, plants knocked from their pots and planted inside another container need not have their root ball maintained in the same pot shape. The roots can be spread out slightly to reduce the length from top to bottom.

Make sure that there is space to spare between soil level and the rim of the container. If you so wish you can sprinkle granite chippings, pebbles, coloured glass chiPs, tiny sea shells or granulated polystyrene on top of the soil to hide its surface and give a slightly more decorative effect.

Plants can be leaned at any angle you like to present the most attractive appearance and where desired one plant can be placed lower or higher than the others depending on the depth of the container. In others words much greater opportunity exists to arrange the plants to obtain the most decorative results.

It will be difficult, it is true, to water a plant when the pot is leaning outwards at an acute angle, but on the other hand if every pot is well surrounded by moist peat then there is much less danger that it will dry out. The only problem will be encountered when the pots are of plastic rather than clay, for plastic pots do not allow moisture to be absorbed through the walls in the same way that clay does. So if plastic pots are used you will have to pay greater attention to watering processes, either splashing water into the tilted containers when you give the plants their drink or by making use of a spray and soaking the soil in the pots quite thoroughly. But the moist peat surrounding them not only keeps the pots cool and comparatively moist, but it also creates a micro-climate of humidity around the foliage- above, and so long as the plants are given a quick inspection each day they should come to no harm.

Growing Plants from Throw Aways

By John Collins

Of the citrus fruits tangerines appear to give the most attractive plants, for the leaves are a dark, shining green rather than pale and dull.

As children, just as we grew mustard and cress on a wet flannel, so most of us at one time or another grew a carrot top in a saucer of water. A pleasant enough little plant, this is really too unsophisticated a procedure for most adults, but the same principle can be applied to a pineapple, and indeed given the right conditions it is possible to grow a pineapple top right through to the fruiting stage, although normally a greenhouse will give a much better chance of success.

Very many of the seeds we normally throw away can be grown on into little plants and I would frankly hesitate to set any specific limits in view of the letters I have had from many correspondents. I would have doubted, for example, whether one could grow a peanut or a date stone, but I have seen both done successfully.

Some importers of these fruits have obviously learnt that young and saleable plants can be grown in this manner and in the past year or so a very large number of fruits are being sold with the heart of the tuft removed, obviously for this purpose. So only if the tuft at the top is complete with its centre and green and fresh looking, should you attempt to grow a plant from it.

Apples, pears and plums can all be grown quite easily and none need any special treatment. If seeds are germinated and plants grown for some months indoors it is little use trying to plant the young seedlings in the garden after they have lost their early attraction. They do not take kindly to the transformation in their living conditions, and in any case plants grown from these seeds are not true to type, by which I mean that they will not necessarily produce plants of the same variety as the parent.

After a few weeks roots will begin to show and the young plant as it then is can be potted up in a good, rich but well drained soil mixture. John Innes or Levington composts can be used, but as the tuft is apt to be top-heavy the latter is really too light to hold the plant securely until deeper roots have been formed. It is better to use John Innes with an added handful of sharp sand to increase the drainage.

Free Tips and Advice on Cacti

By Pumba Carrington

If we buy from a specialist we can order types which will flower regularly, we can even order according to color, shape and size of bloom. But if we buy haphazard from a market stall, chain store or florist shop we must take our chance.

They store this moisture in their fleshy tissue, which is protected by a thick skin containing a chemical which inhibits transpiration. Their general shape permits them to have the greatest volume with the minimum surface arca. They are, in fact, thoroughly well adapted to their normal wild conditions.

There are, I believe, two main reasons for the popularity of cacti and other succulents in the home. The first is the odd shapes in which so many of them come : tall, short, round, flat, rectangular, gnarled and twisted, prostrate, climbing, weeping. Some of them are particularly appealing simply because of these odd shapes.

So although we should water them quite freely in the summer, for the remainder of the year they should be allowed to become almost dust dry at the roots before watering again and in the winter water should be withheld to the extent that they almost begin to shrink and shrivel before being given a drink. Too much water at any time will lead to root or stem rot. Hence their soil mixture should be exceptionally sharp and well drained.

Cactus flowers are sometimes large and spectacular, sometimes small and insignificant. Colours can be vivid or drab. Some may last only a few hours while others continue open and shining for days.

Some cacti can be made to flower regularly every year, some may be spasmodic, flowering according to season and others will flower only when they have reached a certain age or size and so may not bring us pleasure in this way in our entire lifetime.

Bottle Garden Tips

By Carl Johnson

Slats across the box held the pots securely in place. So when the plants had been placed in position, the interior of the box well watered and the top glass firmly replaced and locked into position, they were safe from most of their earlier perils.

The beautiful flowers of the nerine can also be enjoyed indoors. Pot the bulbs in autumn about half in and half outside the soil. Water moderately until the flower spikes show and then begin to let them dry out until the autumn again. Feed well while the flowers are forming.

Clivias do not die clown in the same way as most other bulbs so should never be allowed to become quite so dry. Pot bulbs in February and water straight away. Give them plenty of light and regular feeding when the shoots are growing well.

Because the case was almost hermetically sealed all moisture given off by the plants in respiration was trapped inside the case and escaped only very slowly, so the plants never required watering. And because of the same reason the Victorian atmospheres, compounded of coal smoke and domestic gas fumes, could not enter. The plants lived for very long periods.

Genuine Victorian Wardian cases are a rarity today and fetch high prices in antique shops and salerooms. But they can quite easily be made, usually from large tanks originally intended for tropical fish. They have, however, been largely replaced by bottle gardens.

The bulb flowers are all what we might call perennial, for they will flower indoors year after year. There are many more which can decorate our homes for the period when they are at their best, but which must be grown under the kinder conditions prevailing in a greenhouse. These include some irises, some lilies, arum lilies (zantedeschia), tritonia, schizostylis, acidanthera and some orchids such as the pretty little bletia.

Watering Systems for Your Houseplants

By Dan Naphtali

Some automatic watering systems incorporate a tiny water window near the base of the container so that it is possible at a glance to see whether the reservoir requires replenishing with water.

It is unlikely that the keen plant lover will maintain all plants in automatic watering containers, so occasions will probably arise when some emergency arrangements will have to be made to water the plants during absence on holiday, in hospital or on business.

Fortunately only a very small proportion of the plants available for sale are of poor quality and in almost every case these plants, coming to us usually through chain stores, were in good, sturdy condition when they left the nursery and have been the victims of an almost inevitable ignorance and lack of care while on sale in crowded, overheated conditions. Yet even these plants will frequently pick up and recover themselves when they receive a little care and attention.

The plant will live like this, inside its own atmosphere, for two or three weeks quite comfortably. For larger plants some help will be obtained by wrapping the pot, already watered, in a larger plastic bag, and sealing the top around the base of the plant above soil level. This will vastly reduce the rate of drying in the atmosphere.

So some plants come to us with a slightly acid or slightly alkaline soil, some with a light, sandy, open mixture and others in a heavier loam. But in every case any new plant is in good soil and will need no re-potting for up to the first year or so, after which it depends on the size of the plant, your own skill and several other factors.

But the rock particles obviously vary considerably in size, so we get stones and gravels, defined as having particles larger than two millimetres and so useless to us.

Why Money Should Not Be An Issue When Dating

By Jayde Johanssen

Many people are afraid of dating due to the perceived expense associated with it. They think it costs money to meet people. (Ie. dating site fees) They think it costs money to get to know them. (Ie. paying for dinner or theatre tickets) This can actually stop people from dating. This is a terrible state of affairs. As such, I have written this article to show you there are ways to meet and date people, without spending much money at all.

You don't actually have to spend a cent meeting people. It really is very easy. All you need to do is lose your nerves and become chatty. Talk to everyone no matter where you are. Try and have a conversation with every single stranger who drifts past. If you do this you will pretty quickly become an expert at ice breaking and conversing.

So when you get out of bed tomorrow, make a point of chatting to people you usually wouldn't have. Become a conversationalist. Just make it up as you go along. Talk to everyone though, don't be picky. If you talk to everyone, you'll have so much practise ice breaking and being a conversationalist that when you see someone you are interested in, it will be very easy to start up a conversation with them that is natural and free flowing. This will hopefully will lead into a follow up conversation at a future place in time.

There are so many situation in every day life that give you these opportunities. Some examples include: Sitting on the bus; having a coffee at a cafe; Shopping; Walking the dog; Posting a letter. Every moment you spend outside your front door is a moment that exposes you to the world of meeting people. So get out there and start saying "Hi".

Once you have met someone and have agreed to see them again, your options on where to take someone are virtually limitless. Most of the dates which cost money are "old hat" anyway, so often a cheaper alternative stands out and is much more successful. A great example of this was in the movie Josh Hartnett stared in, called 40 days and 40 nights. In this movie, he simply took a girl (the girl whose heart he ended up winning (played by Shannyn Sossamon)) on a bus ride. That was his idea of the perfect first date. If you haven't seen the movie, get a copy if for no other reason than to see how successful this date was.

Here are some ideas to whet your appetite: A DVD movie marathon - you both bring a DVD or two over and cuddle up on a couch all night watching them; Go window shopping for pets, antiques, luxury cars or boats. Just leave your credit card at home; Go back to your childhood and do something you loved to, like play on the swings in a park; exercise - go for a walk at the beach, a ride in the hills, a rollerblade anywhere; make the journey the date; Combine some of the above ideas

So you see, you can meet and date people without spending your money. It only takes a bit of courage, practise and imagination. Good luck, I wish you all the success that you deserve.

Dish gardens and arrangements

By Kate Mountains

Every indoor gardener with enthusiasm and taste must at some time or another be dissatisfied with merely placing plants in saucers in various places about the house.

Instead there comes a tendency to group them, to place one plant beside or in front of another to obtain the extra value of colour or texture contrast. This is, in effect, arranging the plants in the same way that flowers are arranged and is just as much a means of getting extra value from the plants.

They must be compatible not only in their demands for moisture, but also in their growing habit. One would not, for example, grow a cissus and a rhoicissus together in a single container, for both being vines they would quarrel with each other over the space allowed to them and in any case they are so similar in some respects that there would be little point in growing them together. So, dealing first with planted bowls or dish gardens, let us look at the type of container that is suitable.

Again, plants are of benefit to each other if placed in close proximity, for the moist air transpired from the leaves tends to be wafted in the air over neighbouring plants, to their benefit. Still another benefit is in the saving of time, for where several plants are placed together they can be tended so much more quickly.

A little violet-patterned sauce boat, for example, would look charming planted up with a collection of African violets. But bear always in mind the fact that even the toughest of glazes on your china may perhaps be affected by the soil after a period, and in this case line the container carefully with plastic sheeting or kitchen cooking foil, keeping the edges well tucked down so as to be invisible.

These materials are, also excellent where the container, perhaps a favourite antique, is cracked and so no longer waterproof but still sufficiently decorative in shape, colour or design to be used for this purpose.

Traffic and Road Condition Reporting

By Stanley Records

A traffic report is an element of a radio program or TV news broadcast that informs listeners about general traffic conditions. The reports generally list the locations and severity of traffic accidents, construction detours and slowdowns, etc., on the roadways within the broadcast area. In the United States, the broadcast area is generally defined by utilizing statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau and from a ratings company, such as Arbitron.

The Canadian BC Govt, takes road reporting seriously. You can find the BC Highway Road Reports online at http://www.bchighway.com

In addition to legacy information dissemination methods (radio & TV), traffic reporting on the Internet (i.e. TrafficReport.com, Traffic.com, etc...) has become mainstream - including access via mobile computing devices (i.e. Treo, Blackberry, iPhone, etc...) and personal GPS units (i.e. Garmin, TomTom, etc...).

By supplying updates during traffic rush hours, providers offer a public service to commuters to help them anticipate and avoid traffic congestion. Many reports offer recipients an alternate travel route.

At radio stations where news programming is the primary content, roadway conditions are tracked by monitoring police radio frequencies. Some radio stations also have agreements with states' highway patrol that permit a direct connection with a law enforcement computer. This enables real-time information gathering of the latest accident reports to states' highway patrol divisions. However today more and more, state DOTs (Departments Of Transportation) have agreements with various technology providers to deliver automated traffic tracking data which is resold and redistributed.

In many of the largest U.S. cities, states' transportation departments or divisions have installed a series of cameras along the Interstate Highway System to monitor traffic conditions. Systems of this type can be easily seen along the I-95 corridor in the eastern section of the United States. I-95 runs the north-south length of the U.S., from Maine to Florida (just as with I-35, which runs from Minneapolis to San Antonio).

Television stations in Miami, Florida have agreements with the Florida Department of Transportation to enable use of video images generated by this FDOT camera system. These images are shown during morning and afternoon traffic reports, on several local stations, and FDOT is cited by reporters as proving "these images courtesy of the Florida Department of Transportation".

Many medium and large radio and television markets, as classified by Arbitron, utilize helicopters to overfly accident scenes and other areas of high traffic volume. This helps each radio or TV station to provide up-to-the-minute, live reports or traffic conditions. Some stations, in larger U.S. markets, at least, may have their own helicopter, or share resources with a local television station to help mitigate the costs. In many markets, a local or regional traffic reporting service may have contracts with several radio and television stations. This helps stations avoid the expense of purchasing or leasing their own helicopter, which necessitates other expenses like hiring of a pilot, and setting a maintenance schedule.

Broadcast reports on traffic conditions, usually heard on radio, became popular in large U.S. cities in the 1960's and quickly spread in use to other areas as population centers grew. As these smaller burgs and hamlets became absorbed into larger metropolitan areas, particularly in the United States, the interstate freeways became cluttered during the morning and afternoon rush.

Many stations began using reports provided only from their studios, depending on information from law enforcement and citizens. Today, most large metropolitan areas have traffic reporters in the air and also depend on advisories from listeners using cell phones and other mobile communications devices.

During the 1990's, competition between radio and television stations led many program and news directors to add traffic reports to their schedules, though many smaller stations could not afford a full-time traffic reporter or aircraft. This led to the expansion of traffic reporting companies, including Total Traffic Network , Shadow Broadcast Services, Metro Networks, and other regional traffic reporting agencies.

In 1997 and 1998 Metro Networks began buying many smaller traffic reporting agencies, as reported in their own financial statements to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. In 1999, Metro Networks acquired a firm called Copter Acquisition Company, from Westwood One. Westwood One then purchased Metro Networks, and the two companies merged completely.

Thats about it for the History of traffic reporting stay tuned and remember to check British Columbia Road reports.

Texican Mexican

By Ian Kleine

Everyone might have had a bit of Tex Mex in their lifetime. After all, the dish is not really that hard to find anywhere in the good country of America. But where did Tex Mex come from? What is it? And who made it?

With the "who made it part", history has it that came from the influence of the Tejanos, Texan meztizos. Tex Mex is the fusion of Texan and Mexican cooking, a unique cuisine made by the Texans to celebrate their love of food. In proper terms, Tex Mex is the blending of food from the United States with the influence of the cuisine style of Mexico. Tex Mex is varied and has lots of version depending on which region you tasted the dish.

There are similarities between all Tex Mex. According to a wiki entry I found, most of the dishes use "...melted cheese, meat (particularly beef), beans, and spices, in addition to Mexican-style tortillas. Texas-style chili con carne, chili con queso, chili gravy, and fajitas". But almost every dish is Mexican in name, whether it be tortillas, burritos, churros or the usual salsa and guacamole. But the American feel is there. You can't describe it. You just have to taste it.

Another trait of Tex Mex food is there's not really a singular dish in a plate, what you get are a combination of different items. That boring old steak, when Tex Mex-ed, suddenly has a side dish of refried beans on the side, a slathering of chili sauce, rice and enchilada. We have an old favorite, carne asada tampiquena. You should try it sometime, it's a fan favorite down in the South.

Tex Mex is an acquired taste, but it's easy getting it since some of the influence is, as mentioned, American. Most restaurants that cater to Tex Mex cuisine recieve a good audience, even from out of the country. There isn't much of a cooking class that teaches Tex Mex, but a good start would be to learn Mexican dishes.

Maybe one day, you could open a resto in the heart of Tex Mex state.

A Fruit Garden

By Gertrude Hamlet

It is most important to see that the bulk of the fruit is planted in one part of the garden on its own. It is a great mistake to try and grow apples, pears and plums in a vegetable garden. Or, to put it another way-please don't plant vegetables and salads in between fruit trees.

They don't go well together from any point of view. Most fruit trees and bushes like being 'grassed down' or mulched, and this is the best way to grow them.

By having your own Fruit Plot-you can largely give the trees and bushes the conditions they need. The grass can then be allowed to grow right up to the trunks of the trees in a few years. The writer has a lawn planted up with pillar-trained pears at 10 feet square, and it looks most attractive indeed.

I know a garden whose owner insisted on having apples on each wall; and this meant planting on the south wall James Grieve, Lax- ton's Superb and Cox's Orange Pippin; on the north wall Beauty of Bath and Tydeman's Early Worcester; on the east wall Ellison's Orange, Sunset, and Tydeman's Late Cox, and on the west wall Fortune, Winston, Pearl and Cox's Orange Pippin.

Unless a lawn is to be used for games it is not a bad idea to plant a row of cordons on either side along the edges-or on one side only, if preferred. The trees look most attractive when they are blossoming, and equally beautiful when they are covered with fruit, especially if you grow crimson dessert varieties.

The alternative is to plant two or three dessert apples or pears, in the lawn, giving them plenty of room, but training them pyramid fashion.

Outdoor Marriage, To Do Or Not To Do

By Cheryl Bayley

An outdoor wedding is one of the most splendid ways to get married. Nothing beats saying those vows in a park, or on a mountaintop. Still, you should consider whether such a type of nuptial is right for you. Here are some of the most important criteria to help you choose:

As for the arguments that may mean that you should better not get married outdoors, start considering that outdoor marriage can be a fickle thing, which many more potentially unexpected events taking place than with a tradition al wedding. If you or your spouse are not exactly keen on the unexpected, it would be better to plan an indoors wedding.

One specific reason for not getting married outdoors is if you would be disappointed by the weather turning sour, Of course you can take precautions, such as hiring umbrellas in the case that the ceremony is interrupted by unexpected rain, but if changing weather is something you'd rather do without, find a building to get married in.

If you don't like stress or responsibilities, and if you think that you will already be stressed out at your wedding anyway, better not to add the extra complication of holding it outdoors. Of course, the people that are helping you organize the ceremony can act as a mitigating influence on this point.

Finally, you may love the outdoors, but do all your gests think the same? The celebration is also for them. You need to take special account for elderly people, and also for children. If there are any in your party that cannot stay outside, it may be better to marry indoors.

OK - now about the considerations that speak FOR an outdoor wedding. First of all, an outdoor marriage ceremony will be an absolutely memorable thing, and will delight your guests far more than an indoor one. If you want your wedding to be remembered, get married outdoors.

Also, if you have an attachment to a specific place that is outdoors and want to get married there, do it! Whether it's the lake that you went canoeing on as a kid, or that hilltop from which you can see the whole town, don't be afraid to hold your outdoor marriage there. It will be a ceremony to remember.

If there are any pets that you would like to partake in the wedding, whether dogs, cats or other animals, it makes perfect sense to hold the marriage ceremo0nmyn and possibly the entire event outside.

One thing that definitely helps is if you are an organized person, and are able to adapt to a plan B if the main option cannot go ahead. A good wedding organizer can help on this point, if organization is not your strong suit

Information on the Different Types of Houseplant Pests

By Paul Valance

The common names are Chinese Cabbage, Spoon Cabbage, White Cabbage, Shantung Cabbage, Chefoo Cabbage, Flowering Cabbage, Celery Cabbage, Pekin cabbage (Eng.); Paak-ts'oi, Pak-choi (Chin.); Chou de Chine (Fr.); Chinakohl (Ger.); Chinese Kool (Neth.); Col China, Repollo (Chino (Sp.); Pe-tsai (Mal. and Indon.); Pechay (Philipp.); Mkaheji (Swah.).

Annuals or biennials, rarely perennial herbs, native to the north temperate parts of the Old World, particularly the Mediterranean region. All have taproots, which may be fleshy. Stems erect or ascending, glabrous or with simple hairs. Lower basal leaves often pinnatifid with large terminal lobe. Inflorescence racemose; sepals 4, in 2 whorls; petals 4, with long claws, usually yellow; stamens 6; stigma usually capitate.

Fruit a siliqua with convex valves, tipped by a usually seedless beak. Seeds in a single row in each loculus, spherical.

Synonyms are B. napus L. var. chinensis O.K. Schult, B. pekinensis (Lour.) Rupr., B. petsai Bailey, B. campestris L. Some authorities now consider that Brassica campestris L. is a more valid name and that this species should be divided into two varieties: var. chinensis (Paak-ts'oi) and var. pekinensis (Pe-tsai).

Well grown plants should never suffer from disease indoors. If any disease does develop it is almost certain to be fungal and probably due to overwatering. Begonia mildew may appear on begonias which have had too much water and insufficient warmth, and although this can be cleared by using a fungicide such as Captan, affected leaves will never be the same again and it is best to throw the plant out.

A cross-pollinated crop, yielding approximately 500 kg seed per hectare. Brassica chinensis should be isolated from B. juncea, with which it is cross-compatible. It is not cross-compatible with the cultivated varieties of B. oleracea. Plants for

That is probably the hardest step in dating after divorce. That doesnt mean you have to think you are going to be alone for a long time to come, however.

There are many great places where common dating tips for women will tell you to go about meeting people, but there are some other great places of which only you would know. You may think that the gym is a place where only younger women meet men, but that is simply not true. Men of all ages can be found there. You may also want to try new clubs to see who you can meet. You may only meet new female friends, but that is definitely worth it. Other dating tips for women after divorce should include making new friends. They may have friends that you can meet.

It is important to be true to yourself as you read through and follow any dating tips for women. Some wont make sense in your life, even if they are good ideas. If you go with them, but you are uncomfortable from the start, you are not going to make any meaningful connections and you are going to feel worse instead of better. Also remember, dont make drastic changes right away in dating or your life. Make sure you are doing things for the right reasons and not just as a boost because you feel horrible.

What some dating tips for women might not tell you is that you may not be ready. You may feel lonely, but if you really think about it, you may not want to get out there straight away. Some people can do this and others can not. Dont force yourself, even if friends and family are nagging you about meeting someone new. Make up your own dating tips for women if you want to. Be sure you are healed and whole by yourself so your new relationship will be a good one, and not just a hurtful and unfulfilling rebound.

Tips on using bows for hunting

By Jim Karter

A hunter will usually need one of these three things to kill his prey. These three things are rifles, shotguns or the arrow and bow combination. The arrow and the bow combination commonly known as bow hunting is very popular with hunting enthusiasts for its uniqueness.

Bow hunting is very challenging as compared to other forms of shooting like rifles and the shotguns. You will need enough time to learn the skills. As far as specifications go there are two things that you will need in the bows and the arrows and that are the toughness and the accuracy.

Before venturing into actual deer hunting with bow and arrow make sure that you have experimented with carious positions as well as angles. It is these trial and error positions and angles which will give you the required expertise and the best way to get the best suited combination for you as a hunter.

Bow weight is one thing that you need to be careful with. The weight will determine the accuracy of the aims and the shots you will take. For better stabilization there are stabilizers that you can add to the bow.

The bow will recoil once you take the aim and that will mean that you need to protect yourself against such recoil and that you can do with the straps that come for the bow hunters.

There are two types of arrows and these are made up of either aluminum or the carbon. Carbon ones are lighter will help in making the longer distances as opposed to aluminum ones which are heavier. The aluminum ones are much better for accuracy as opposed to the carbon ones.

Practice makes the man perfect so practice hard before you venture into the world of bow hunting as well as make sure that you have the required accessories for the hunting.

Growing Cacti

By Veronica Mississippi

Although the epiphyllums are cacti they are different in appearance, having long, narrow stems almost with the appearance of leaves, (in fact these are sometimes called ' leaf-flowering ') and their method of treatment is entirely different, for as we have seen earlier they grow on trees in a decomposed leaf mold compost and they consequently require more water and less intense light than their terrestrial cousins. On the other hand their stems are fleshy and capable of absorbing and holding considerable quantities of moisture, so they can live for long periods without watering and although they prefer some shade they will not suffer unduly if subjected to intense sunlight.

Another clue to their treatment in the home is the amount of sun and the extremes of temperature to which they are subjected. During the daylight hours they are likely to be baked under an intensely bright and hot sun, yet at night and sometimes during the winter, temperatures can drop very low indeed, not reaching freezing point but only a few degrees above.

So we should give them as much light as possible at all times, winter and summer, yet at nights and during the winter temperatures may be allowed to drop to about 40F. (5C.). Because of their liking for bright sunshine it is well to give cacti plants a holiday in the garden or on the balcony during the summer. So long as they are watered well and not forgotten this sojourn in the sun will be of great benefit to them.

Due to a great deal of intense work with epiphyllums in the past few years a larger number of fine new hybrids have been produced and these have been bred to be considerably more tolerant of home conditions than some of the original species.

If the plant must be removed to water it, make sure that it is replaced in exactly the same position and the only way to do this is to mark both the pot and the shelf, window sill or other location.

Propagation of nearly all cacti, whether terrestrial or epiphytic, is usually a comparatively simple matter from cuttings. Seeds of terrestrial cacti are simple to germinate and can sometimes produce interesting plants.

Free Tips on Growing a Miniature Tree or Bonsai

By Zipporah Gary

If you bring it indoors, remember that it should stay in the home no more than two days out of each week and that it should be in a well lit position away from all sources of heat and preferably fairly cool and airy.

Whatever type of soil you use, make sure that it is loose and well drained, so add a good proportion of sharp sand to your soil mixture. A good loam and peat mixture is usually helpful, although standard John Innes composts with the addition of added drainage material are usually quite successful unless the young tree has definite preferences.

As the roots must be pruned and confined to small size it is helpful in the early stages of growing the plant to use a peat or soil block through which the roots will grow visibly, enabling you to keep them cut short. One container which has been proved successful is an ordinary half orange or grapefruit skin. The young tree is potted up in this and in turn the fruit skin will be buried up to its rim in garden soil or in a larger pot. Thus the skin will be kept moist and soft and the tree roots will gradually penetrate and grow through. They can then be cut away.

When the young tree is large enough to be handled without damage you can begin its training. Look at the specimen carefully to decide whether you can take advantage of any natural shape or grace that it may possess.

This exists more for anchorage than for sustenance, so if the fine root hairs are abundant and undamaged you can cut this tap root cleanly away to leave you with a small ball of fibrous roots which will fit into your container.

In the evenings spray the entire plant thoroughly, allowing the fine mist of clean water to envelop every leaf and twig. This is, in fact, an excellent means of watering the soil also, for it avoids any soil particles becoming dislodged, but remember when watering by spraying to carry out the operation sufficiently thoroughly to allow water to drain out through the drainage holes at the base, otherwise the root ball may not be uniformly moist.

Free Advice and Information on Fruit Trees

By Timothy Ducks

Frozen air is rather like water in that it flows down to the lowest point. If, when it reaches the bottom of your garden, it cannot get away because of a high fence or wall, then it will collect in this low part and may cause trouble. Fruit growers always fear frosts at blossoming time and soon afterwards.

It cannot be produced in a year or so, neither can it be quickly replaced when once it has been destroyed. The really shallow soil must however always be treated with suspicion by fruit growers, and one which is less than 12 inches deep should be left alone. If, however, the rock below the 12 inches is soft, then the roots may even penetrate through this. It is important therefore to dig down and see what the depth of the soil really is.

It must not be thought that the opinions given are those of the writer only. Dr. W. S. Rogers, D.Sc., M.A., the Head of the Pomology Department at the East Mailing Research Station, once said in a lecture to fruit growers : 'Organic matter in the soil is important in many ways. It is a regulator of water-supply; it acts as a kind of chemical sponge; it is a reservoir of nutrients more or less ready balanced. It affects the biological condition of the soil.

The reason therefore top dressings of well-rotted compost, sedge peat or old farmyard manure, is that the worms play their part in breaking down organic matter, and if you are looking for a large and active population of worms, as you should be, then the top dressings which have been advised-and will be advised again and again-should be given year after year.

Sometimes it is absolutely necessary owing to a very high bird population to plant the soft fruits in a cage. Usually this applies particularly to redcurrants, raspberries and strawberries, but the writer has known cases where the birds have gone for blackcurrants and blackberries also. A cage is somewhat expensive to erect, but as it is reasonably permanent, it should last twenty years or so. Some people like to have a wire-netting surround and a fish-netting top. Then each winter the fish netting can be removed for drying before being stored away.

How different the surface soil is in between the rhubarb plants in a bed where no digging is done, and where mulchings are given with compost or dung each year. Under such conditions the soil is friable and open, and can be raked for producing a tilth at any time.

Some Free Indoor Gardening Tips for You

By Huey Dewey

If the pots of your houseplants are stood inside a larger container without holes in the base, then the space between the flower pot and the container can be filled with peat, sand, crumpled Florapak or any other moisture retentive material. Then when we water the plant we need not fear that any excess moisture trickling through the hole in the base will damage the furniture.

We can not only live in extremes of light and shade, warmth and coolness, that would kill most house plants, but most of us would find it difficult if not impossible even to notice degrees of light and shade that can mean life and death to some plants. So how are we to determine the necessary demands of these plants?

First, we should look for color. The greatest degree of color, certainly the most obvious color, in a plant is in its flower. So if a plant is grown for its flowers rather than its foliage we know immediately that it must have good light.

Although the steam is warm it is not warm enough to do any harm and the actual moisture particles are even smaller and therefore more efficient than using the spray method.

With its huge, slashed and holed leaves this is a favourite among the more decorative and exciting larger plants.

It will grow to 50 ft. or more under helpful circumstances, up a wall and along the ceiling quite happily given normal minimal care. But in a normal room it will seldom flower and fruit, simply because the light is not good enough for it.

Free Houseplants Advice

By Jill Ellison

Any houseplant will flower and produce the fruit if it is given identical conditions but greater light. The flower is typical of the arum family, a white sheath surrounding a central spadix, which when fertilized becomes the fruit, like a long and immature pine cone, the pulpy flesh of which is in fact delicious, tasting like a cross between pineapple and banana.

So whereas a monstera will grow and flourish in normal home conditions, if it is removed to a greenhouse or conservatory with the same temperature but better light it will almost certainly burst into flower and then fruit.

So if we recognize the fact that generally speaking the brighter the plant color, whether of flowers or foliage, the greater the need for good light, then we can go right to the other extreme and discover another helpful fact. It is that in general the darker the leaf and the tougher the foliage the less light a plant will require. It makes sense, doesn't it?

Most of the ivies we grow in our homes will adapt themselves to outdoor living after a brief period and the effect of the better light is astonishing. They grow lusher, more exuberantly and they produce flowers and fruit prodigiously because they have better light.

The rubber plant, a member of the fig family, is rightly popular, for it has a strong, architectural shape, is neat and unfussy in appearance, demands little attention, grows well and attractively and, perhaps most important of all, will tolerate a low light intensity.

Even on the darkest and gloomiest winter day out of doors we shall always find a significant reading in the daylight, yet we shall find it difficult sometimes to get the same reading indoors even on the brightest and sunniest of summer clays!

Essential World of Warcraft Warrior Guide

By Shane Fenham

What is good about playing a warrior in world of warcraft? There are a fair few world of warcraft guides around, but all of them seem to be focuses on PvP and the info there seems to be a bit too terse and technical. Instead what we shall concentrate on is what it is to be playing a warrior either in a group or alone, without all that jargon.

There is no doubt that warriors are gear dependant. This is the facet that makes them most unique and great to play in that they have all gear available for them to wear or use as weapons except magical items like wands and relics. And apart from Paladins they are the only class that can wear plate on reaching level 40 which adds to their look and already awesome power.

The power they possess for taking and giving damage is such that warriors are also known as tanks when playing in groups. This is also a term spawned by the fact that while in group combat the warrior is the chief taker and giver of major damage and as such probably the most essential member to have on board to ensure success. Very rarely, if at all, there will be any instance run or raid where there in no tank and the warrior is the best tank in the business. One or two other classes can assume this role but they are not, shall we say, born to do it as well.

The warrior talents and abilities are split into trees. Depending on the talent tree chosen you can specialize your warrior as either an:

Arms warriors choose this ability to have a large range of abilities in offensive and utility talents. Two handed weapons are best suited to this tree spec which are exponentially increased with warrior spells like "Mortal Strike" which further increase combat damage.

Fury Warrior: this is the spec that is preferred by warriors looking to power level fast in world of warcraft. They too specialize in two handed weapon combat and have fantastic talents like "Flurry" where they can win or turn a fight with one single move. Fury warriors are also often referred as Rogues with plate armor such is their similarity when inflicting weapon damage and speed of fighting.

Protection Warriors: for tank spec this is the class to be. More defensively minded, using shields and sword mastery to fend off off enemies and absorb and deflect damage. This makes them last longer in combat than the other two tree specializations and required if want to play your warrior as a tank.

Each of these three tree talent are triggered by the stance the warrior uses: Protection, Beserker and Battle stance. Hence before reaching the more exciting end game you can sample each spec to see which one suits you best as you quest and grind.

Trees Don't Grow Overnight

By Ian Kleine

The city of Macon is dubbed the Cherry Blossom Capital of the World with good reason. The streets are filled with the numerous blossoms, all from the trees in the sidewalk. The place reminds you of a modern Japanese-American themed city, as the usual-Japanese flowers flutter amongst modern American buildings and asphalt-lined streets.

The area is bustling and filled with Yoshino cherry trees, and every Spring, they fill the air and the ground with their pale pink petals. It is a very extravagant display of color, which leaves their audience speechless and breathless for the first time.

History relates that the cherry trees came from the late William A. Fickling, Sr. who was a local realtor in the area. He had discovered a Yoshino tree in Macon, and with confirmation after three years, had found out what the species was. Took him a trip to Washington DC just to find out the tree was actually a Yoshino specie!

His generosity and enthusiasm had urged the residents to participate in his vision of filling the whole city with the pretty cherry trees. Years passed and the vision had started to materialize. A lot of its current residents had moved to Macon just to be near the trees. One of them being Carolyn Clayton, the festival founder.

She had urged Fickling to go on with their project, and the dream became true. Through a big community effort, 500 trees were planted along the streets across Macon. The project was encouraged when they had finally proposed the first Cherry Blossom Festival.

Soon it had become one of the Top 20 events of the South, and news had begun to spread. From three days, it had reached 10 days of festivities.

The trees keep growing too, and like their number, the dreams of Mr. Fickling will live on and bloom more and more.

Attractions at Houston City

By Ian Kleine

The city of Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States, located in Texas.

Being a large city, it is quite easy to find good things to buy, good food to eat, and good places to visit. Texans would claim Houston is a good city, and the number of tourist spots in the area would keep anyone entertained for as long as their visit would allow them to.

For the naturally curious, their is the Houston Museum of Natural Science, an altar for the different branches of science. The museum has a butterfly center, a planetarium with stars and the usual revolving satellites, models of dinosaurs and much more.

There's also the Museum of Fine Arts, which has a very large and expensive collection of art pieces, most from around the world. Renaissance, tribal art, expressionist, abstract and even the pre-Dark ages. It also hosts art from its visitors, students from the surrounding art schools or rising artists, whose works may one day take the art world.

We have the Houston Downtown aquarium, a 7-something acre complex that has renditions of famous waterways like the Amazon River, Louisiana swamp and others. There is also a Ferris wheel inside, a helipad (makes me wonder what this is for) and a train tunnel that passes underneath a shark tank. Feel the thrill having a shark swim above you in menacing circles!

The Houston Zoo is a huge crowd drawer that has a collection of 4,500 animals, ranging from mammals, birds, felines, reptiles (alligators, anyone?). The zoo is also well known for having reared the largest elephant calf in all of the recognized zoos around the country. It is also probably the only zoo that hosts the Giant Eland, a rare specie of savanna antelopes. Believe me, being near this great-horned being is a wonderful experience that cannot be emulated by anything else.

Knitting Loom Could It Be What You Are Looking For?

By Gina Williams

The use of knitting looms is hundreds of years old, but in more recent years a revival in the practice has been noticed. In the past, the knitting loom was extensively used to create clothes, carpets, tablecloth, bed spread and sheets, blankets and plenty of accessories . There are several elements that determine the technical features of a knitting loom: the gauge, the shape and the size. It is from the existence of such variables that we can identified the differences between one knitting loom or another: some are oval while others rely on rectangular frames, for instance.

The purpose of the knitting loom is the one that influences size the most. The gauge or the distance between the pegs is determined by the project you want to use the knitting loom for. The very thickness of the yarn has to be chosen by fully respecting these elements or specificity details that correspond to the item one intends to make. Most of the time, the knitting loom serves for the making of fabric in large, and in these complex structures the needles of traditional knitting are represented by the pegs. The diversity of stitches and patterns results from the possibility to wrap the yarn around the pegs in different ways.

It is not difficult to learn how to operate a knitting loom, particularly if you have managed to master the use of the needles before. Looms are considered excellent for people who have to give up knitting because of all sorts of joint ailments such as rheumatism, arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. A home knitting loom is not that complicated to operate and assistance is plentiful on Internet sites and in printed guides. Personal development of the skill is just a matter of practice afterwards.

As for the costs of a knitting loom, variations are definitely normal. Thus, collection pieces manufactured a hundred years ago are definitely more expensive, but usually, these are not the models purchased for day-to-day operation. Small-sized practice knitting loom models are offered by several manufacturers in some different size categories. Although the use of the knitting loom has gone through a revival in recent years, it is not that extensively used given the huge competition from knitting machines for instance. Therefore, it is a big achievement that looms are still in use, as they remain preservers of traditions we come to forget.

I hope you liked this article on Knitting looms? It is suggested that you research this subject further on the internet.

Creating something that is wholly tangible and tactile is something distinct from the likewise amazing art of cinematography, for example. The capacity to hold and interact with with an object is a treat to the senses.

It is the norm for artists and artisans to turn up in California. As people go about their various day-to-day routines here, a lot very often want to stop and smell the roses; just appreciate the finer things in life. This is second nature to craftspeople; their works have echoes of life in them.

If you are a craftsperson already living in (or thinking about moving to) California, then maybe you would want to sell your crafts at the numerous craft shows that happen annually around the state. How is it done, you ask? There are, after all, around 849 craft fairs scheduled to happen in this year alone; and my first advice is to carefully choose which fair to attend.

Obviously, you have access to the Internet, or you wouldn't be reading this otherwise. The Internet has a wealth of information and a casual search is all it takes to find an online site with listings of craft shows with ease. Once you've gotten there, you can grab the contact information of the event organizers and you've already completed the first step.

Communication is one of the skills you must learn and utilize when selling, starting with the event organizers. Initiate a rapport with them and ask about how they run things. A typical craft show will let you rent a booth for a fee, but that's where the similarity ends. The benefits included with the package differ from event to event; some offer chairs and tablecloths with the booth, but some don't. It's advisable to ask these things beforehand so you can prepare what you need and save yourself the trouble after.

A Simple Three Step Plan For Getting Your Ex Back

By Johnnie S Laney

If you want your ex back, is your plan to wait weeks or months and hope enough time has passed that they'll miss you and/or forgive you and want you back? Waiting weeks or months can cause you to lose your mate forever if they move on to someone else. Instead, try the following 3 step plan for getting your ex back in just days instead of months.

Step One: The very first thing you need to do is understand why the relationship got broke. What did you or they do that contributed to the split? What were the underlying reasons or the big problem that developed between you?

There will be one of three major reasons why it ended. You wronged them. Maybe you cheated or you were too jealous or whatever. Second is they wronged you in some major way. Third, they just weren't that into you anymore.

As best you can, you have to understand what went wrong. You won't be able to address the issue and repair the damage if you don't understand the underlying reason for the rift.

Step Two is critical and often overlooked. Without this step you will have little chance of getting back together. You need to set up a special kind of conversation with them where you ask them not to argue or blame or explain but to listen to you and you'll listen to them. Then you both talk about your feelings about what went wrong. So if you wronged them by cheating on them, you need to make it safe for them to talk and vent about how they feel about what happened. (You need to do something different instead of this step if they just aren't that into you anymore.)

The key is for both of you to discuss your feelings about what went wrong. Not to prove who's right or wrong. The negative emotions filling your mate's heart may need to be vented and released. You do this by listening to them, not arguing with them. Once they are aired out, you start to have some room for more positive feelings about each other again.

Step Three depends on the previous two steps. If you feel like their and your negative feelings about the cause of the break up have been vented or aired, then you can apologize or accept their apology and see about getting back together.

You don't need to demand or pressure your mate to get back together or make a big decision. You need to let them know you are interested in seeing them again and ask them to consider that. Leaving the ball in their court is often the best practice at this stage. There is a lot more to this, but following these three steps can begin to repair your love relationship and pave the way for reconnecting without waiting weeks and just hoping they want you back.
